Former comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Bill Thompson's first round of TV ads hit the airwaves Tuesday, as did a second ad from Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Thompson's two ads both lean on his biography — he spent his childhood in Brooklyn and is the son of Caribbean immigrants — and both use the same tag line: "I'm Bill Thompson and I'll always remember where I come from and who I'm standing up for."
Thompson is currently polling in third place in the latest Quinnipiac University poll, just two points behind Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Quinn's second ad features the mother of Manny Lanza, who died from an untreated brain condition. His mother says he died while the hospital waited for the family to get health insurance — but because of Quinn, "Manny didn't die in vain." Watch it below.
