Hi All, If you are interested in development in Haiti please come check out the United Nations Association's Young Professionals for International Cooperation NYC as we are working on a major new flagship program to assist in education, infrastructure and environment issues in Haiti. http://www.unasouthernny.org/ypic/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61&Itemid=61
kai 11great point!i wonder how much cheap american agricultural product dumping effects haitian farmers?
Just wondering what are the "skeptical" Haitian Americans doing to help the situation? Haiti needs help and Clinton has clout so why not try and help him help Haiti?
Besides of lack of good governance, much of Haiti's prospective success depends on soil: no joke.
The almost total deforestation of the Haitian part of Hispaniola leads to lack of topsoil for agriculture, thus poor food security, plus, entire denuded hillsides melt into mudslides during major storms and hurricanes.
It seems that a coordinated and systematic effort to cultivate the agricultural sector and reforest the island, led and worked on by Haitian citizens, has to be one of the first steps taken to address economic and environmental problems.
i would ask bill to stay away from the women!
ALL WE NEED IS DUAL CITIZENSHIP AND WE WILL TAKE CARE OF OUR AFFAIRS.
CGI has made a real impact in Africa in the treatment of HIV/AIDS (which is a huge issue in Haiti). Clinton is an informed and experienced politician and he will have the ability to shed light on Haiti's issues (which are now absent from the public discussion).
I'd like to talk about the Americans, Canadians, and Europeans who go to Haiti for sex vacations, exploiting the poverty and desperation of Haitian boys and girls. A high profile political and philanthropic project in Haiti may help spotlight this issue and give the young women (and men)there an alternative.
truthi know not EVERYONE is eating mud but i hope u agree one person is too many
Haitian Americans have no "clout" in the US government.
Clinton has a different support system behind him this time. It is not a revisit of the same old regime.
I agree, there is some diplomacy needed, they do have leaders "running" the country. The US can't go in there running our own agenda.
Agreed, Haitian American, not Bill Clinton.
Re: good leadership
Clinton has to practice wise diplomacy, he can't go in with guns blazing, this is probably part of a charm campaign.
I think Bill Clinton is a good choice.
Granted it is a desperate situation over there however, not quite everyone in Haiti is eating mud HJS.
you know those people are forced to eat mud and yet they live so near to the "richest" nation in the world.shame!
