Weekend Staff Picks: Monsters, Pollock and DeeJays

Saturday, July 06, 2013

Looking for something to do on this humid holiday weekend? Check out some suggestions from our colleagues at WNYC.

Soterios Johnson, WNYC Morning Edition host: Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, East Hampton, NY. Visitors get to see where Jackson Pollock painted his masterpieces. "What's cool is you get to go in the barn where Pollock painted and see all the splattered paint on the floor," said Soterios.

Jody Avirgan, associate producer on the Brian Lehrer Show: Monster University, check local listings for theaters and times.  Jody typically watches movies in quiet theaters, but not this time. He says summer blockbusters are meant to be seen with screaming kids shouting at the screen.

Gretta Cohn, associate producer on Soundcheck: Warm Up 2013 at PS 1, Long Island City.  Now in its 16th year, the event offers live music so you can dance among the art every Saturday this summer.  The Martinez Brothers are the deejays this weekend.
