Students Donate Books to Rockaways School

Thursday, January 03, 2013 - 11:43 AM

Among the groups that recently rallied around school communities devastated by Sandy were student volunteers. One of them was fifth-grader Zachary Roth from P.S. 183 Robert L. Stevenson who decided to collect gently used books from his Manhattan classmates to donate to P.S. 317 The Waterside Children's Studio School in the Rockaways. In this photo, Zachary and classmate Luca Kohler-Cahill are delivering more than 400 books to Waterside's principal, Dana Gerendasi.

Zachary plans to continue with the donation effort, called "Read It Forward," for schools across the city. Do you know of other donation drives or volunteer projects underway? Did you participate in any Sandy relief activities? Tell us what you learned, or how people can still get involved.
