What's New in Your Closet?

Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 02:55 PM

There's a little more Hermione and a little less Snooki in teenagers' closets this fall. As they get dressed for school, many girls have decided to put aside tight dresses and cutoff shorts in favor of maxi skirts, capes, trouser jeans and oversize sweaters, Marisa Meltzer writes in the Thursday Styles section. Scarves from Ethiopia, henley shirts from Madewell, boots from Urban Outfitters and “items of clothing in rusty red and sea foam or teal” are on one teen's back-to-school shopping list. “The uber-sexy thing has reached a saturation point,” said Jane Keltner de Valle, the fashion news director at Teen Vogue. “It’s no longer cool or edgy.”
