Third-Grade Teacher Accused of Sexually Abusing Student

Thursday, June 14, 2012 - 03:08 PM

A third-grade teacher at a Harlem public school was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl who goes to the school, a law enforcement official said.

The teacher, Rafael Sosa of Public School 208 Alain L. Locke on West 111th Street, is at least the 10th public-school employee to be arrested this year on sexual offenses involving students. The numerous arrests prompted Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott to order a review of 12 years of substantiated misconduct cases and to vow to remove any teacher who had engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior.
