Tropical Storm Andrea to Bring Heavy Rain, Wind to Tri-State

Thursday, June 06, 2013

Tropical Storm Andrea is making its way toward the East Coast and is expected to drop heavy rain and bring strong, gusty winds to the tri-state area Friday and Saturday.

The first named storm of this year's hurricane season is expected to drop two to four inches of rain coupled with gusty coastal winds, flaring up Friday afternoon and into the evening.

National Weather Service meteorologist Gary Conte says the storm is serious, but it won't be a repeat of last October.

"This is not Sandy. This is not Irene," he said, adding: "That being said, we are forecasting a lot of rain. And people need to know where they live and if they have vulnerabilities to freshwater flooding."
