“Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer”

Thursday, June 06, 2013

Directors Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin discuss their documentary “Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer.” It tells the story of Nadia, Masha, and Katia, members of the feminist art collective Pussy Riot, who were arrested and charged with religious hatred after they performed a 40 second "punk prayer" inside Russia's main cathedral. Their trial and harsh sentencing has gotten attention around the world.

It airs on HBO June 10 at 9 pm, and will be screened in New York during the Human Rights Watch Festival on June 17, at 9 pm at Film Society of Lincoln Center's Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, and June 18, at 7 pm, at IFC Center

Pity the poor CIA.

They run crude media operations to try to destabilize Putin and make celebrities out of the vulgar art clowns like Pussy Riot and ultra-rightist "anti-corruption blogger" Alexi Navalny. (Sorry Jews -- Alexi doesn't like you very much.)

Imagine how mad they must be in Langley these days. The Pussy Riot vulgar art clowns deepened the Orthodox Church's commitment to Putin and alienated just about everyone in Russia with a brain so today they see the anti-Putin demos in Russia collapsing even as the Russkies say "Nyet" in Syria to the CIA's never-ending romance with Sunni Muslim fundamentalists. After twenty years of being on the ropes, the Russians are back in the middle of big boy super-power games in the Mid-East so play time for Washington is now over.

Of course the Orthodox Church in Russia is 100% behind the Russian government's policy as they know that Assad protected large numbers of Christians from the Salafi savages that the Western imperialists are trying to pretend are "freedom fighters" -- just like they are trying to pretend that Pussy Riot are noble artists. So making Pussy Riot art martyrs only makes you look even more ridiculous actually. And I'm sure the video footage of a a pregnant woman about to give birth participating in an "orgy" in a museum will only deepen everyone's admiration for these noble souls in their never-ending struggle against patriarchy, sexism, homophobia, and everything else they have to struggle against until they land an academic tenure track job in some Western University boring students with their moronic recycling of post-modernist drivel.

Keep up the good work in Langley and don't worry about the rest of the world laughing at your tricks. Libya was low-hanging fruit and even if you stopped the Chinese from buying up the oil market there, they don't need Libya so much now that they have Iraq. The Chinese totally agree with Russia about the Middle East as well so thanks also for finally helping to heal the Sino-Soviet split.

Now go back to your own public love orgy with the Muslim Brotherhood nuts, Saudi monarchist lunatics, MI-6 James Bonds fighting to make the world save for derivatives, and Bibi N., the clown-prince of Israel.

And the "Syrian chemical weapons" hoax? Wow, are you really that desperate? Even Zbig thinks it's a joke.

@Melissa, I do understand how the word Pussy might make people uncomfortable - and I think that's kind of the point.
