Cheryl R. Williams, that is a brilliant description of Tavis Smiley. It is a breath of fresh air to see that he does not have everyone fooled.
Everybody black with a brain hates TAVIS
He is so double tounge two faced .
white folks love himlook for him soon with clipper onwer DON Sterlingcause man Tavis is one of them
fake fake fake
When are all of you going to learn that Tavis Smiley is an invention of the white liberal media that practices the soft bigotry of low expectations? He's intellectually deficient, barely reads anything that doesn't support his racism victim perspective on life, has little to contribute expect using racism accusations to justify his existence and has more ego than substance to offer. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time when the white media began to be accused of newsroom racism and he was coherent enough to utter a full sentence without speaking ghetto-ese and looked decent in a blue suit during the Tom Bradley elections in Los Angeles when he did his 15 minutes a week "Political Report" on Lee Bailey's ABC Radio Talk show. He has no training as a journalist so objectivity and a mission to get to the truth is not in his personality makeup but that did not stop NPR from putting him on a pedestal and making him believe that he was their saving grace to appeal to minorities. Jay Kernis, NPR director of programming, admitted that he allowed Tavis to get away with behavior and insults that would have gotten a white reporter fired. Otherwise, there's nothing there! What do you expect when you compromise so much on standards and performance criteria? By the way, I'm a black female so this is not a racist diatribe; I'm just sick of the marginal expectations in the name of inclusion.
I think it was wrong for Brian bring Tavis on his show then blind side him like that!
In the same token I am not a fan of his PBS show, I find it Intellectually deficient.
I still Love Tavis Smiley! Sorry people sometime truth hurts and Mr. Smiley is a truth warrior! Peace.
Liam, re: "Clinton-knee-stas" Looks like you bought the campaign narrative without paying close attention to the Obama record.
I don't want to pile on, but I have a lot of trouble with Tavis Smiley. I have seen him interview people on his show about books he has clearly not read. He just riffs on a couple of cliff notes style ideas he (or an assistant) have come up. It galls me to hear him spout platitudes about accountability without holding himself to the standard he preaches.
I regret the cancellation of News and Notes, however, it may have more to do with the third host to take over--she tends to get rather snarky.
I like the truth that Tavis tells--no rose colored glasses here. He has taken heat from his own community for this. He has great company--see John Lewis.
I'm a little tired of hearing Tavis claim that people are saying that Obama should not be criticized. I know a lot of black folks too and I haven't heard people saying that. Get over yourself Tavis.....
YOU GO, TAVIS!!!I love it when someone from Black America can talk critically about someone we all love-Barack Obama! We need Barack to be great!Oh, boy, do we!And ALL THOSE CLINTON-KNEE-STAS!
I thought we got rid of that Clinton crowd!
Oh yeah, and now that 'news and notes' was finally cancelled (since it really WAS a Star (him) powered show, I pity the 40-70 NPR people who lost THEIR jobs because of (him!)
I think that for TAVIS to start to point fingers, and complain/claim that THEY are wrong, is a REAL laugh for me!!!
Ok # 1) I hate Tavis Smiley, I think the short shrift he gave NPR with regards to his 'leaving' News and notes' after he got his PBS show was reprehensible.
He ought to be accountable to his word.
Just like he just said.
I Love Tavis Smiley!
