The Cincinatti field office of the IRS targeted Tea Party groups for extra scrutiny -- but did they do so unfairly, or because they were overwhelmed in their efforts to manage applications for tax exempt status? Susan Page, Washington bureau chief at USA Today and Nicholas Confessore, politics reporter for the New York Times covering lobbying and campaign finance discuss the story and the details about how the IRS manages 501(c)(4) "social welfare" groups.

I'm sorry but it is so unbelievable that the mainstream media still can't report the facts and as many facts relating to a story before wrapping an hysterical tone to a federal govt story. Yet again, Fox and it's friends send out the meat and the "real" media fall all over themselves trying to out fox Fox. Did anyone see Stephen Colbert last night??? These groups (5014Cs) are NOT required to register because it hasn't even been mandated yet. The real problem is that our incredibly LAME congress can not legislate effectively and write a law that clearly delineates what it means to be a "social policy" group that does not engage in political activity.

I'd much rather they dedicate resources to examining "social welfare organizations" than what appears to be very stringent auditing of low-income taxpayers.

Blame our pathetic lawmakers, who created a law that is so self-contradictory & confusing that it was only a matter of time for something like this to happen.
