Yoko Ono is nothing less than a cultural icon. From her early years in New York's artistic avant-garde, to her marriage and collaborations with Beatle John Lennon, to her creative activism promoting peace, Ono has made, and continues to make, a powerful impact on our world.

Sean Lennon--Ono and John Lennon's son born in 1975--is a creative musician in his own right, and has been performing with and directing his mother's Plastic Ono Band for years. Spinning On Air host/producer David Garland invited Sean to create a playlist of his mother's music, and present it with her on Mother's Day.

In the course of the program, Yoko and Sean tell many interesting stories. They speak intimately about the music, and reminisce about the events that inspired the compositions. Sean reacts to a John Lennon recording he's hearing for the first time.

The music ranges from the proto-punk intensity of "Why" (1970), which features Ono's unique, startling vocalizations and John Lennon's noise guitar, to the gentle "I'm Going Away Smiling" (2009), for which Sean played the lyrical piano accompaniment.

Yoko Ono is 80 years old, and going strong. This show first aired May 13, 2012.

It saddens me when I see and hear people mindlessly attack Yoko. Yet, she inspires me with her beautiful mind; her ability to take negative energy and use it, change it...into music, art..into loving affirmation. Such a fantastic, brilliant and loving human being. Thank you Yoko, Sean and David for a wonderful program. Imagine Peace.

Yoko is as talent-less an individual as they come. Like someone on an acid trip and the audience is straight. Furthermore, she is a piece of garbage for stiffing Julian, John's 1st born son. She'll get hers in the afterlife.

She is a thief and a sneak. Poor Sean is innocent to her underhanded work of stealing. She likes to play with John's estate to make sure that anyone else other than her and her son are due money to hide John's wishes. She should be in jail. Hopefully, 2013 will reveal the deceit that God has allowed her to get away with for more than 30 years. She needs to go to prison!

I thought it was an eye-opener for me, it was highly emotional also. Yoko is a brilliant artist all around and it was even more meaningful as viewed through Sean's selections of her work. I sensed Sean's deep pride and admiration for his Mum . . .

Great show. I enjoyed every second of it. I cried a lot too -- good crying -- not sadness but joy at hearing Yoko's words in song and words, her love of John and Shawn, Shawn's love of his mother and father and John's love of Yoko and Shawn. Thank you so much.

Wonderful show, and terrific tribute to Yoko as not only Sean's mother, but the mother of many ideas and vital efforts!

Bless them both for their efforts to unite so many against the destruction of New York's most precious resource, water. Blessings!
