The Boston Marathon bombing suspects planned to come to New York City to conduct an attack in Times Square, the mayor said today.
Dzhokhar Tsarvaev told investigators that he and his brother Tamerlan planned to drive to New York City in the vehicle they hijacked in Boston and detonate their home-made explosives in the heart of Manhattan. Police said they believe it was a spontaneous decision.
“New York City was next on their list of targets,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
The pair had six improvised explosive devices — including a pressure cooker bomb like the one used during the marathon attack and five pipe bombs, police said.
