Blogger ProFile: 'Man Improbably Lands Dream Job, Spends Entire Salary on Ice Cream'

There's a new team of journalists at NPR. You'll see their work online at the Code Switch blog and hear their voices on air, exploring "the overlapping themes of race, ethnicity and culture, how they play out in our lives and communities, and how all of this is shifting." Today, the team launched its first multimedia project, which examines cultural ownership, visits U.S. cities in transition, and traces how familiar narratives about race and culture are in fact changing.
We're pleased to introduce you to Code Switch Blog Host Gene Demby. You're going to be reading and hearing a lot from him, so get know him a little.
My name... Gene Demby
NPR employee since... December 2012
Public radio listener since... around 2003. Shout-out to Brian Lehrer and Fresh Air.
My job at NPR is... the lead blogger at Code Switch, NPR's race, culture and ethnicity team.
The one word I worry about stumbling over on air is... "juxtaposition."
I'm not as... laid back ...as I sound.
The Newscast headline reporting the last year in my life would be... Area Man Improbably Lands Dream Job, Spends Entire Salary on Ice Cream.
I use social media to... banter with/and share big communal moments with strangers. (How did we watch the Super Bowl before Twitter?)
In my suitcase, you'll find... running headphones, chocolate wrappers, old New Yorkers.
If I could share a coffee with anyone, it would be... Sanaa Lathan.
I can't live without... ice cream. Seriously, it's a problem.
I wanted to be... a ninja ...when I grew up.
The Code Switch fam ...is a breath of Fresh Air.
I make it a point to never miss... On The Media.
