Attack Ad Prompts Quinn’s Challenge

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

A day after being targeted in an attack ad by a new political action committee with anonymous donors, Council Speaker Christine Quinn sent a letter to the rest of the candidates Tuesday challenging them to “condemn and reject” independent expenditures in the mayoral race.

“If we allow them to exist, to occur without vocal pushback and opposition, then we are allowing the best public finance system in the country to be eroded,” Quinn said at press conference.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio responded to Quinn with a letter of his own.  He criticized her campaign for linking him to the attack ad on Monday and called her letter to candidates a “gimmick.”
