London-based composer and vocalist Donna McKevitt returns to the New Sounds studio for this edition of the program.  When she was last on the show in the 1990's, it was with her settings of poetry of the late Derek Jarman, "Translucence."  McKevitt performs her settings of poetry by Maya Angelou for us in a trio setting, with trumpeter Lew Soloff and double bassist Francois Mouton.

She'd actually written the Angelou song cycle before "Translucence" in the 1990s as she was touring as one of the members of the goth/medieval/madrigal/rock group Miranda Sex Garden.  We'll also listen to another of her collaborations with Cesarians' drummer and poet Jan Noble.  That, and more.

Superb! Missed listening to your show, as my Hubby & I went bird watching along the coast from Brooklyn to Norfolk, then doubling up along the Tidewater country. In Cape May, we stumbled onto the "Singer Songwriter Festival", now in it's 6th year. I was astonished that I had never been made aware of this event on your shows, and even more flabbergasted that no one that participates in this event knows about your program. Sin permission from you, I recommended to the few Bands to send their CDs/demos to you. Hope you do not mind. Two I shall plug to you: Matt Wade; the other, AVI.
