“Belleville” at New York Theater Workshop

Monday, March 18, 2013

Maria Dizzia and Greg Keller talk about starring in Amy Herzog's play “Belleville.” It’s about Abby and Zack, a young American couple who have shirked the stability of a comfortable post-graduate life in the United States for Belleville, a bohemian neighborhood in Paris, but their relationship is put to the test. “Belleville” is playing at the New York Theatre Workshop and has been extended through April 14.

Guests:

Maria has answered questions in what I would describe as a very genuine way, but I have to say that Greg Keller comes across as a real jerk. I think he did a real disservice to his play by being interviewed, as my interest in this play has waned with his every word. He seems very smug and pseudo-intellectual.

Belleville is NOT Bushwick--not even close. But I wouldn't count on someone who took a "vacation" to Paris, stayed in the Marais, and made a "special trip" (a few metro stops makes it "special") to a neighborhood to have picked up on what comprises the neighborhood. Jeesh.
