An American Foxhound and an Affenpinscher are among the favorites to become America's top dog. The Westminster Kennel Club picked its best in show Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The show is often called a beauty contest for dogs, but WNYC's Sarah Montague, who's been following the competition, strongly disagrees with that description.
"That often suggests that there's one standard of beauty, and somehow rather everybody's being measured against it," she said. "In fact, the great thing about dogs is that they are all uniquely beautiful, and that's what's being judged. Do they live up to the standard of their own breed?"
Montague talks with Amy Eddings about the dogs she met at the show this week, and the top contenders for Best in Show.
