Monday, February 04, 2013

For the first time in twenty years, Hillary Clinton doesn't have a national political job. So, what should she do with her free time in Westchester?

Listeners, what would you recommend to the now Former Secretary of State? We'll take your suggestions at 212-433-9692...

As I understand it, Hillary Rodham has a home in Washington, D.C. and an apartment in New York City too. She could be in any one of those homes. She stood in Washington, D.C. since it was near the State Department.

I am sure Bill Clinton will include her in his many Foundations and interests and she will be more active than ever.

If she has not done so recently, spend time "catching up" with her daughter Chelsea, at home?

or... volunteer at one of the many local youth ice hockey programs in Westchester, e.g. the Westchester Mariners who played at the now defunct Rye Casino ice arena which was recently damaged in Storm Sandy.

Hilary should join us in neighboring Connecticut on Valentine's Day, (February 14th) in Hartford at the Capitol Building to March for Change; to the people's support for strong gun violence prevention legislation.
At the last ( CT ) legislative meeting on January 28th , there were approximately 1000 NRA supporters to 200 March for Change/Connecticut Against Gun Violence supporters. We'd like to turn those numbers around.

For more info go to www.marchforchange.org

I hope you will pass along all of these suggestions to Hilary.

Thank you!

She should volunteer at the Women's Correctional Facility in Bedford which will open her eyes to incarceration in America and get involved with ending putting non-violent offenders in prisons.

Hillary should attend a Spoken Interludes event in Hastings-on-Hudson! A fantastic literary salon founded by DeLaune Michel. Go to website (spokeninterludes.com) for upcoming events.

Today's show reveals both the promise and the limitations of the Brian Lehrer show.

Amy Goodman on Democracy Now devoted 40 minutes of her hour show to interviewing the author of the book describing and celebrating Rosa Parks's legacy as an American heroine.

Brian creditably does give recognition to the 100 th year commemoration of Mrs. Parks's birth.
But he devotes a little more than 10 minutes to it.

The same amount of time he devotes to where Hillary Clinton should have fun in Westchester.

Are these equivalencies to which equal time is to be devoted.

Some day Brian will provide more than superficial coverage of many of these events which really matter.

I hope Hillary Clinton started last night, by not setting her alarm so she could sleep late on her 1st Monday morning off the job!

Best restaurant in Westchester is the Farmer and the Fish.

Westchester? You've got to be kidding.

Two weeks in Club Med, on the beach, on a lounge chair, with a couple of good books and some rum punch.

She should check out the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester - beautiful renovation and some wonderful acts coming up, unfortunately she missed Citizen Cope last Saturday. Also The Tarrytown Music Hall and the Emelin theatre in Mamaroneck. And if Hillary needs to check out for a while, tell her to see Lisa at mysolefood.com for seriously deep relaxation.

Another suggestion: Whipporwhill Park, a nature preserve near Hillary's home, is great for a spring walk. She will find not only nature trails, with information cards about flora and fauna prepared by the local scout troops, but also the ruins of a 19th century farm -- very interesting. Just be sure to wear long pants, socks and tick repellent; and check the dog for ticks after you get home. (Sounds awful, I know, but the Park is great.)

Our neighbor, Hillary, should visit the Chappaqua Farmers' Market, which is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, whre she will find wonderful NYS-grown and prepared foods, friendly merchants and lots of good neighbors. The Market is a highlight of our week, and one that I think that Hillary would enjoy as she embarks on a new life and new life-style.

Welcome home, Hillary!

The Future President as well as the former Present, should go to the Wobble Cafe in Ossining on a Saturday morning to enjoy a delicious breakfast and to mingle with the local Westchesterites. Afterward, they should go for an arm in arm walk along the North County Traiway located off Pinesbridge Road (Route 134) in Kitchawan preferably on a brisk spring Saturday morning.

I do this w/ my family and we love it!

Hillary could explore the world of ethnic restaurants of Westchester County and Port Chester in particular. From Jamaican jerk chicken to Peruvian baked goods, to late night chili, there's plenty to sample.

Hillary should definitely get in touch with my Aunt Ellen in Chappaqua who has recently found herself in a similar position. Recently retired lawyer, kids out of the house...she's always involved in new projects and I am certain they would get along. For starters they can accompany their Labradors to the Lasdon Park & Arboretum. In, I'm pretty sure they've already met...

I'm happy to provide contact information!

Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, of course! Fantastic outdoor sculpture park--great for long walks among amazing works of art. It will open again in April, just in time for Hillary to get up from her well-deserved nap!

Hillary should take up curling at the Ardsley Curling Club. Great fun, affordable membership.

She should relax! Take up painting, gardening and smoke some ganja.

If that is too mellow for her, she should take up pro-bono defense work here in the city. Plenty of lower class people need help with the justice system.

Hillary: rest, recover, 2016 all the way. GO HILLARY!
