Dror Moreh, director of “The Gatekeepers,” discusses his documentary about Israel’s Secret Service and how politics and diplomacy have affected national security there. Peter Georgescu on Good and Evil

Peter Georgescu tells of his journey from childhood captivity in a Romanian labor camp to his role as CEO of the world-renowned advertising agency Young & Rubicam. His traumatic youth led to a lifelong struggle to understand humanity's moral nature. His book The Constant Choice: An Everyday Journey From Evil Toward Good is a reflection on human behavior and an exploration of how we choose to do good or evil every day.

"The Gatekeepers" - Israel's Secret Service

Director Dror Moreh talks about his new documentary, “The Gatekeepers,” nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Six former heads of the Shin Bet, Israel’s Secret Service, reflect on their successes and failures to maintain security in the midst of shifting politics and imperatives of the “peace process.” Each man weighs in candidly on topics from preemptive strikes to confronting terrorists. “The Gatekeepers” opens at Lincoln Plaza February 1 and at Film Forum February 20.

Tibutes: Stanley Karnow

Stanely Karnow was not only a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, but a foreign correspondent and television documentarian.  His books include Vietnam: A History, Mao and China: From Revolution to Revolution, and the memoir, Paris in the Fifties -- which prompted his friend, Bernard Kalb, the former CBS reporter, to recall, "Stanley has a great line about how being a journalist is like being an adolescent all your life."  You can hear him speak with Leonard as part of a panel discussion about the accuracy of historical movies from November 1995.

Guest Picks: Eddie Huang

Eddie Huang, the chef and co-owner of Baohaus and one of the food world's more colorful characters, was on the Leonard Lopate Show recently. He talked about his memoir, Fresh Off the Boat, and he also told what he's been listening to...and his favorite comfort food. (We have to say, it sounds pretty good.)
