Mother of Boy Who Had Gun at School Arrested, Police Say

Friday, January 18, 2013

Police say they have arrested the mother of a 7-year-old Queens boy who brought a gun and ammunition to school in his backpack.

Fifty-three-year-old Deborah Farley was arrested today [FRI] on charges including criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. Police say Farley's son brought the handgun to Wave Preparatory Elementary School in Far Rockaway on Thursday.

It is not clear whether the boy knew it was in his backpack.
Police say when the child's mother learned the boy had the gun she immediately went to the school and asked the boy in private about the weapon, but the boy informed her he had given it to a classmate. The mother then told the principal, and the school was put on lockdown while the gun was located.
