@ryan from forest hills:

Yes, and since the mainstream "liberal" party, the Democrats, have such an exemplary record on things like war and civil liberties (Way more drone attacks under Obama, assassinations, NDAA, etc., etc.) and economic justice (just look at Obama's cabinet choices), all will be just peachy-keen...

Unfortunately, there is NO relief from having your six year old's brains splattered all over the floor of his first grade classroom floor.

The NRA is funded by the folks that profit the most from gun sales: Gun manufacturers.

"The Violence Policy Center estimates that between 2005 and 2011 the firearms industry donated as much as $38.9 million to the NRA."

"Not surprisingly, this growth is great news for shareholders of America’s biggest gun manufacturers. Since 2010, Ruger and Smith & Wesson – our two biggest publicly traded gun makers – have enjoyed a 150% rise in stock market value. In May, Ruger’s first quarter earnings more than doubled – and it temporarily stopped taking new orders since first quarter 2012 order had exceeded those for all of 2011."

The NRA organization is under the full control of gun traffickers, drug traffickers and the drug cartels - They have been actively working for the past 20 years to fully arm every single nut and criminal as well as every criminal organization. This is so they can turn around as the violence and savage carnage has increased and claim that the solution is the arming of the good guys -

I am all for restrictions of these war weapons to prevent citizens and criminals from obtaining these weapons, but I'm realistic enough to know that if implemented tomorrow, all kids already born and those to be born for the next 10 years will be target for slaughter by these criminals armed by the NRA

I went to high school in the early 90s and i remember a gun problem in N.Y and so i remember that thwy started putting metal detectors on schools..my sister went to Washington Irving H.S and they have them there so every school should have them.
Also the ppl committing crimes can be serial killers so the F.B.I should study more on these..

Susan Page is a perfect non-entity pseudo-journalist. Does she have in mind women like Michele Bachmann? Sarah Palin? Meg Whitman? Carly Fiorina? Liz Cheney? Dana Perino? Condoleezza Rice? Nikki Haley?

I have heard a story that there is a guerrilla campaign to have moderates join the NRA in numbers, so the membership can then vote out the extremists like Wayne La Pierre and return the organization to its historic role of supporting long guns used for hunting and recreation (i,e., rifles) and away from support for concealable weapons and military armaments. Any truth to this?

going after guns didn't work before and will not work now. we need to think differently: let people have whatever gun they want, but the tax on it should be equal to its price; require training and testing no less than what car owners go through; require uptodate insurance for all guns just like cars; and find other ways to make owning a gun more expensive. Deterents, not bans.

A friend had a very interesting idea for gun control; make people have to insure their guns like they have to insure their cars. It would be a more market based solution and it would provide some relief to victims of gun violence.

I ask again ... why the second amendment is not enforced as written in the constitution . I ask every gun owner :
Are you a member of a well regulated Militia that is organized to defend the free state?
The NRA is beyond logic and will use any thing legal or illegal, ethical or unethical to justify it's politica fetishes

Enough with guns already ... a straw man for WNYC lefties.

How about holding Barry Obama's policies up to inspection?

As a moderate liberal I don't see any value in 3rd party solutions. As the last election proved, our country is becoming more diverse, younger, and by extension of that, more liberal. All we need to do is keep up our stature and wait for the conservative movement to literally die off.
