Ed O'Keeffe stated it was a fact that the ambassador requested more security. I never heard anyone say that. Is a fact??

Re: "Team of Rivals" Romney suggestion

Lincoln did bring in rivals, but they were rivals for the Republican nomination, not the general election. They had their disagreements, but they were all unified on the main issue for the Republican party of the day - stop the spread of slavery. Moreover, with his increased confidence and standing, Lincoln's second cabinet was a tamer sort, although we didn't get to see much of his second administration.

Both of Lincoln's northern general opponents were left out his administrations, Douglas dying of illness shortly into Lincoln's first term, McClelland stayed out of politics for over a decade; only 13 years later did he run for office (and win) for governor of NJ.

Lincoln brought his rivals into his administration to give him clout and legitimacy with the other various factions of the relatively new Republican Party, which was a coalition of various other dying parties united in their opposition to the spread of slavery. As the current Republican party has all but erased Romney's name from the party already, I doubt his being in the Obama administration would legitimize Obama in any way in the eyes of Republicans.

While there might be reasons to bring Romney into a cabinet position (though I would disagree), citing Lincoln's administration is poor justification for such an action.

Dorothy hit the nail on the head. No Rice means the likelihood of Kerry instead, with the chance of turning the GNP deficit in the senate from 10 seats to 8. They're just thinking ahead to the midterms!

(Btw no typo, that's GNP as in Grover Norquist Party - until they can show some backbone and talk rationally about balancing a budget rather than just repeating over and over 12 year old Grover's first and final wet dream).

This is holding up the farce that republicans and democrats are on different sides, so we have the illusion of checks and balances. They dont believe anything they are saying. Obama is a right wing republican. Would he even create the epa like nixon? Obama made it illegal to grow food and share it. Cannnabis cures cancer. Fema concentration camps are real and ready for you all.

Why would anyone doubt that the pampered, finishing school, grandson of a bank executive will pick, for secretary of the treasury, someone similar to Timothy ("I-can't-pay-my-taxes") Geitner?

Joshua from Chappequa: NO WAY should Obama offer Romney a cabinet position. Susan Rice has impeccable credentials; Romney is anencephalic, like George W. Let's try to offer positions to people whose qualifications are unassailable, who are intelligent, who are honest, and who will do their job because they want to serve this country. Romney is none of the above. 'Nuff said.

Where was all this outrage and investigations from McCain and the rest of them when Bush, Cheney and Powell came before the nation with "proof" of WMDs that led to a war and the death of thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis. The same intelligence they receive the same Susan Rice received.

From the NYTimes:
David H. Petraeus, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers on Friday that classified intelligence reports revealed that the deadly assault on the American diplomatic mission in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration refrained from saying it suspected that the perpetrators of the attack were Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers to avoid tipping off the groups.

ie: The CIA was trying not to tip off the perpetrators! Why is this still under discussion?

She didn't write her statement. It's naive for everybody to assume she did. The Repubs want John Kerry to be SOS so that Scott Brown can get Kerry's Senate seat. Period.

What about the Republican hypocrisy? These are the same senators that lined up behind Colin Powell when he took deliberate misrepresentations to the UN and the wworld to justify the Iraq war. How can the speak now so critically with a straight face?

Nov. 29 2012 10:22 AM

Susan Rice was given talking points...confirmed or unconfirmed. She is a mouthpiece for someone else, not a leader. John Kerry is a political hack insider.

There was some confusion in the immediate aftermath of the attack on the Benghazi consulate regarding exactly what had happened and how organized the attack had been. Grasping for straws to save the Presidential campaign of Romney, Republicans attempted to paint this as a failure of Obama's foreign policy. No one bought this accusation except the people who had already decided to vote against Obama. Therefore, Obama had no reason to deny that organized terrorists were behind the attacks if that had been known to be the case. But it wasn't known at that time. The GOP is now overplaying their hand to create a diversion from the budget talks.

I don't seem to remember McCain or Graham going after Powell, Cheney, or Rumsfeld, when they presented not only bad intelligence, but misleading intelligence, that launched a war. And then that same intelligence promised that we'd be met with roses on the streets of Baghdad..

You are insulting my intelligence. Is this the Susan Rice defense show? I know she has had critics for a long time and there are criticisms based on circumstances other than the fact she was appointed by the Obama administration. It would be nice if the show explored the those.
