Music from cellist Maya Beiser's new record, "Provenance" by Israeli composer Tamar Muskal is on tap for this New Sounds program.

Muskal’s “Mar de Leche” (Sea of Milk) draws on an ancient love song in Ladino, the mixture of Hebrew and Spanish spoken by medieval Sephardic Jews, whose music blended Arabic and Jewish traditions.  For the record, Beiser is aided and abetted by Lebanese-American master musicians Jamey Haddad (percussion) and Bassam Saba (oud), with percussionist Shane Shanahan.  There’s also music from Argentinian-American composer, Osvaldo Golijov, along with music from North Africa, and more.
