Three Apps I Can't Live Without | Jacob Ford, NYU Freshman

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - 06:00 AM

Jacob Ford, 18, is a freshman at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where he plans to pursue a degree in design.

He was waiting in line for an iPhone 5 at the SoHo Apple Store last Friday with hundreds of others when he called out to this WNYC reporter asking if I could say hello to Radiolab's Jad Abumrad.

A new resident of New York City, he was confident he could handle the Big Apple, electronic devices and all.

"I knew I was ready to move to the city when I could successfully crowd-weave while looking at my iPhone," he said cheekily.

Here are the three apps that will have a prominent place on his brand new, white, 32-gig AT&T iPhone 5 — and the iPad he has yet to buy.

Dropbox — "Put school documents in there, put work documents. Anything that would be really nice to just have synced everywhere, not have to worry about having an older version of some project somewhere and then try to figure out what parts I changed, what parts I didn’t."

Podcasts — "The Podcasts app, the new one that Apple built, is really nice. I've been using that one a lot to kind of separately manage my podcasts."

Coda Light (aka Diet Coda) — "I do web design so there’s an app called Coda Lite that actually only for iPad, which, I don’t have one but I would still like to say that it’s my favorite app. I use their computer program for web development and this app allows you to do basic website changes on your iPad and then it will sync. So it’s great for quick updates. I sound like I use it but even though I don’t but I have a dream that one day I will."
