South and Central America are examples of Euro Spanish/Portuguese Cultural Imperialism.

That's how Spanish and Portuguese became the language of those areas.

JACK - agreed, that is a good thing that you are not fluent in racism.
ASDF - WOW!!
JOHN from the O - "Some hispanics are white?", see there is the problem, they may be of a lighter hue but certainly NOT of the white race.

MAN,we gotta get away from this argument over melanin!

If more Latinos:

1. respected the country of the us (hang us flags, spoke english, became informed and active citizens and voters, volunteered outside of church)

2. treat the us government and its laws with respect (say thank you to your kids teachers, volunteer at your kid's school, drive according to laws, stop laughing at people who drive and park with pride)

3. treat your neighbors and neighborhoods with respect -- American style (Say hello and give a friendly wave to your neighbors, turn down the radio, don't park on the lawn, only "go to the bathroom" in the bathroom, trash in the trashcan, do not leave your car running for more than three minutes -- in other words, respect local laws)

NOBODY WOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH LATINOS! As with Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc. -- most people do not care about "Latinos," nor anybody else except for themselves. But arrogance and insolence seems to get most peoples' attention, so chill, bro -- and contribute to the comforts of lawfulness that we all cherish and benefit from.

@ John from the office-
There are as many different Latinos as there are Europeans. Remember that Cuba was essentially a Spanish speaking United States- it was a white ruled society with black slaves just like we had. I think the Census is stupid for having many subgroups of Hispanics that people could use to identify but a white european can't. A Guatemalan of Native American descent has absolutely nothing in common with white Cuban who is basically Spanish. My wifes father is from Turkey- how should she label that half? should it matter whether he was borm on the Asian or European side of Istanbul? Lol. Is she Asian, European, Middle Eastern, or white? At some point we all need to get past these ridiculous labels- with so much intermarriage now eventually this label stuff won't matter- it can't come soon enough for many of us young people.

Why can't the US follow Canada in relaxing immigration process for those who want to open small businesses?

Sorry, Becky...Maybe I should have said 'Cielito Lindo' rather than 'Mammy' but the point that Mr. R's hue was 'enhanced' was the point I was trying to make. I'll take the fact that I botched the parallelism as a sign that I am bad at racial stereotyping. That's a good thing.

Sep. 21 2012 10:40 AM

JoeCorrao, you asked “would a moderator of color ask better questions?”
hopefully they bring a different perspective, which is always a good idea, right?

Blah, blah blah, illegal immigration is wonderful. I'm sorry, but we don't need more competition for low skill labor. We should have a point system like Canada and Europe.

Sep. 21 2012 10:37 AM

Remember and Illegal IMMIGRANT is getting exploited by those who hire them. FINE and JAIL those who hire illegals and deport immigrants.

Sep. 21 2012 10:37 AM

Kudos to Univision for taking a huge step forward to represent Latino voters. Jorge Ramos in particular for essentially saying, "We can't wait".

Sep. 21 2012 10:36 AM

Obama is doing the right thing rounding up those who broke the law to get here and deporting them. Obviously the criminals first, everyone else second.

We do not NEED illegal immigrants. Stop with the ILLEGAL agenda

Self Deportation - translation, get out before we kick you out! Read between the lines people.

Sep. 21 2012 10:35 AM

What is a Latino? We don't have a category for all Europeans. Every country in this hemisphere that speaks some for of spanish has their own dialect, food and culture. Tell a Cuban that they are the same a Puerto Rican or Mexican and see what they say.

Sep. 21 2012 10:34 AM

WHY aren’t we turning out more STEM graduates !!!

Sep. 21 2012 10:33 AM

...although, BO has probably deported more Latinos than any previous President.

Sep. 21 2012 10:33 AM
BK from Hoboken

Why no discussion of the difference in immigration stands (and overall republican vs democrat support) among Latinos? It is easy for a Marco Rubio to stand tough on immigration issues because he is Cuban American. I believe the law is that Cubans get citizenship on arrival (or is it legal status with a road to citizenship?).
There is a reason that the vast majority of Latino republicans are Cuban. They don't have to face these policies that tear apart families from other Latin American countries.
This is a huge difference in a bloc that often gets lumped together.

Sep. 21 2012 10:32 AM

What the hell do Latinos see in a party/candidate that couldn't care less about them??

Sep. 21 2012 10:31 AM

Suki- thanks for the correction. and to be clear, ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL.

Sep. 21 2012 10:30 AM

If mittens was latino, he would not have the benefits of being white, the son of a governor, that old Harvard network. SO no he would not be doing better if he were a latino

Sep. 21 2012 10:28 AM
John from office

Mittens had on a Ricky Ricardo Tan for the event. Should have worn a sombero. MITTENS WAKE UP AND SMELL THE TACOS!!!!

Sep. 21 2012 10:25 AM

Sep. 21 2012 10:25 AM

Yeah right the President should have addressed the hispanic agenda rather than the financial collapse of the nation that would send us into a recession...right. Well go ahead an vote repub they will address the immigration issue straight away, have your paperwork in order.

This caller understands that Mitt wants him to speak English and probably "self-deport" right?

Really Brian? You cut him off to say that? *eye rolling*

JACK - get your racist stereotypes correct, he was in front of a latino audience, they assimilate white not Black.

Brian, some hispanics are white. Just because you have a Z at the end of your name does not make you "light Skinned".

When you watch Spanish news you think the recruit the news people from Norway.

Mitt still gives himself away in his choice of words: "We just found out..." precedes his statistic on the number of people who have gone on food stamps. He's trying out a new dance move: "The 99 percent scramble."

Sep. 21 2012 10:15 AM
Jack Jackson from Central New Jersey

Any opinion on Mitt's obvious use of 'man tan' to look a little ruddier than his usual tone? Thought for a moment that he would start singing 'Mammy'.

Sep. 21 2012 10:15 AM

More people are on unemployment or food stamps because the great recession, which was cause by vulture capitalists. why would anyone (expect for the rich) vote for mittens?

Sep. 21 2012 10:13 AM

Tired of hearing about the latino vote in regard to immigration. IF YOU ARE HEAR ILLEGALLY, YOU ARE AN ILLEGAL ALIEN AND SHOULD BE REPORTED. Sorry. immigrants with education and degrees have a hard time coming and staying in America. Why should someone who is hear ILLEGALLY jump in front of those immigrating legally? Children of illegal aliens, thank your parents for doing everything wrong to get you here.

Sep. 21 2012 10:13 AM

I thought Mittens did not want to house and feed "free loaders". So now he likes food stamps?? Call Ryan right now!!

First real interview…. OBVIOUSLY UNIVISION DIDN’T READ THE MEMO…that the MSM/NPR sycophants follow-

Miami Herald, Politico.com, Daily Caller-

“President Obama grilled on failed immigration promise, ‘Fast and Furious’ program and attacks in Egypt, Libya
During an hourlong interview on the Spanish-language network Univision, President Barack Obama got hammered with questions over his broken promise to get a comprehensive immigration bill through Congress.”

“Obama pressed on failures at Univision forum”

“Obama slammed on Fast and Furious in Spanish-language TV interview: Shouldn’t you ‘fire’ Holder?”
