Yellow and orange leaves fall from a tree in autumn. (Elizabeth Zagroba)

What signals the arrival of Fall to you? Maybe it's the changing color of the leaves, high school kids riding the subway, or election day. Whatever it is, post it below, give us a call 212-433-9692, or tweet us.

...somewhat superficial: farewell to raised sweaty underarms and goodbye to all the feet that were not sandal ready on my daily commute!!!!

1. The East Village is even noisier and more crowded at night as the NYU, SVA, Cooper Union and Pratt students return and all the Bridge and Tunnel kids come here to play with them. I am a "townie" once again.
2. No more A/C, so my Con Ed bill will go down (hopefully).
3. The days are still warm, but the evenings are cool, so the last few nights I forgot to wear a sweater and now I have a slight sore throat.
4. Flu shots are available (re a caller). CVS asked me if I wanted one, free.
5. I can now go hiking in the cool woods.

We have a huge oak tree in our back yard, and the sound of the acorns falling and banging on the roof and the grill is a sure sign of fall!

To match June in Katonah,
My cats just gave me their first Mantis and Cicada. Giant bugs for your spider. Cause for effect.
I walk the backcountry and 9A's morning rushhour locks to a standstill on the first week of school. Each year, every year.

You can never have too much pumpkin.

First sign of fall to me is when I finally have to lower my wide open windows overnight, when they haven't been down for months.
Also comes a day when you have nothing to wear becs closet shelves are full of not quite right clothes.

The smells in the breezy air. Each season has its smell. The students all return to school. Folks with light jackets and sweaters. In early fall the occasional falling leaves.

- It's cool enough to sleep with no a/c on and a light blanket instead

- The premiere of all the new TV shows

- The "Fall preview" issues in so many magazines about the upcoming new movies, theater, etc.

This is my absolute favorite time of year because it means the dreaded heat & humidity of July & August are gone, and now we can live in anticipation of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

to me is the bright sun on a Weekday morning and you don't want to get up since your bed feels warm and when you finally get up and into the shower the water takes a while to warm up.

I live among oak trees and it's Fall when the "sorties" of acorns hitting my roof start. The 24 hour a day "nut bombings" have begun.
