Elgin James was on the Lopate Show to talk about his journey from being a gang member to making his first film, "Little Birds." He also told us about his love "Dawson's Creek." Find out what else Elgin's a fan of!

What have you read or seen over the past year (book, play film, etc…) that moved or surprised you?

I read 101 books in prison. I Was really moved by "Gone With The Wind," a book I normally never would have thought (or had the time) to read.

What are you listening to right now?

          Terry Reid

What's the last great book you read?

"The Great Santini" by Pat Conroy

What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect?

Dawson's Creek. My friends -- all gang members -- would get together every Wednesday night and watch this show about the life we didn't get to have. And we were all in love with Joey (Katie Holmes).

What's your favorite comfort food?

Pretzels. Obsessively. I'm convinced it's a food allergy because I crave them constantly like a crack fiend.
