Carlos Mencia is a major name in comedy. He's also one of the most reviled characters in the business among other comics. So, naturally, Marc wants to find out what makes him tick, what it feels like to be so controversial, and what he says in his own defense. This may take a while. Then Marc speaks with comics who have worked very closely with Carlos -- Willie Barcena and Steve Trevino -- and then gets Carlos to sit back down for a follow up discussion. Questions will get answered. Opinions will get shaped. Comedians will get serious.

I just heard the broadcast of this on WNYC here in NYC.

I’m a tour guide for Gray Line in NYC. When I use bits from TV or from friends or co-workers, I credit who I took it from on the PA system—the tourists know its not my own material.

When comics use other person’s bits, it’d be right to credit them.

Sometimes Dave Letterman and Paul Schaefer use bits from the Jack Benny radio show, especially Mel Blanc’s sea, sigh, sue. THEY MANAGE TO CREDIT MEL BLANC, somehow. The same way when they use stuff from the “on the road” pictures of Hope and Crosby.

Marc, I’m glad you did this show, but I am very uncomfortable with Carlos Mencia now. I agree with some of the comments of your site who call him a sociopath.
