It has been terrible that the Sikhs have been persecuted by fellow Americans. But at least they've not been targeted by the U.S. government for persecution the way the Catholic Church has been.

I wish I wasn't so cynical but based on the underhanded, un-christian means the FRC have used in the past to wage their campaign of hate, I would not put it past Perkin's et al to hire someone to shoot one of their own to perpetuate the "Victim" state they like to keep their followers in. CFA in his bag? "I don't like your politics?" as Church lady would say "How Conviennnnient."

re: howard......... the right to be heard does not automatically include to be taken seriously (h. humphrey). your boy lehrer engages in the time honored tradition of the hack "journalist" by allowing anyone with the "opposing" point of view to voice it, regardless of the idiocy of the statement or position. that is the essence of false equivalency... he is a hack

To black socialist:

Brian is not a hack. I was surprised at his question about the Catholic Church, but it was a question that would require about an hour or a day or more to discuss. He tries to get his speakers to dissect and parse their statements to get at the essence of their message. The listeners get to analyze the answers.

Oh yes, and finally, in the 80's or 90's, apologized for almost 2000 years of defaming Jews.

Howard from the Bronx: I know the question was not directed at me.. But I will answer with a resounding YES. The MEN who run the Catholic church are an evil hate group.

I'm disgusted Brian that you would give credibility to Tony Perkins smear against the SPLC. The SPLC is a Christian group that has been following, documenting and reporting on all hate groups across the country regardless of their political view and racial composition.
The Family Research Council is a hate group because it makes wild accusations about gays and gays being child molesters. The SPLC does a good job of calling people and groups out on their hate speech.

The SPLC has no qualms about the FRC being anti-gay marriage, but they will speak out against the hate speech from the FRC.
If a crazy person who was able to easily get a gun in Virginia as the FRC believes everyone should do, and uses it against others it should not be held against the SPLC since they are against violence.

The Professor cannot tell the differences between prejudice, discrimination, and hate. Shame.

I am disappointed that the FRC's accusation was given so much attention by Brian.

Brian, does an organization that caused the Inquisition and the Crusades qualify as a hate group?

Did she "put those things in their mouth" or do they actually stand for and do those things, Brian?
If they do...then she didn't "put those things in their mouth"
Why does the media no longer have any respect for facts anymore?

If they stand for those things..then it's a FACT that they stand for those things and is NOT just an opinion that she is putting "in their mouth". Get it straight, Brian.

You won't get the extent of hate groups until you heck out The Southern Poverty Law Center. Look at your state. California has the most. When I tell New Yorkers that most say "Oh Californians are just crazy." California hate groups aren't just eccentric. They're no better than Southern hate groups or Michigan KKK. New Jersey is stuffed full of them. The SPLC was started by Morris Dees, a brilliant guy born into poverty in the South. He keeps his clothes in what was the shack he grew up in. In college he invented direct mail, sending letters to parents a month before their kid's birthday asking if they'd like a birthday cake delivered to their darling child. He left college a millionaire. Now he's semi retired, I believe but keeps working against hate. Look at the map. You may not like it. Do it!

Aug. 17 2012 11:41 AM

Just curious, has there been any research studying the voting habits of these hate groups and of people who consume the hate rhetoric? Do they tend to fall into a spot on the political spectrum?
