This week’s Please Explain takes a look at the art and science of teamwork. We’re joined by Scott Wiltermuth, Assistant Professor of Management and Organization, at USC’s Marshall School of Business, and Dr. John Krakauer, Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, Director, Center for the Study of Motor Learning and Brain Repair, the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Neurology.

Can 1 drawback of teamwork be that the team becomes an in-group & gets isolated from the larger group? I used to edit standards written by committees, & some of them developed their own in-group terminology that even their own colleagues (in the same field, but outside the group) wouldn't understand--& it didn't even occur to them until I asked about it.

When the guest ways "we" prefer male to female leaders, does "we" mean everyone, or just men (or mostly men)?

It's Evolution, Baby!

People who mirrored their cohorts' state & 'field-sense' were successful Group Hunters & reproduced more.

-Just like the Lateral Line that steers an entire school of fish as one.

What's involved in adding new members to an existing team? I suppose they have something of a head start just by (presumably) having the skills & interest in common with their new team, but what's the process of adjustment like, on both sides?
