Romney Adds Israel To Campaign Itinerary

Monday, July 02, 2012

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to visit Israel this summer.

While details of the trip were not made available by the Romney campaign, the former Massachusetts governor will reportedly visit the Jewish state in conjunction with his trip to the London Olympics at the end of July.

The New York Times, which first reported the trip, says the GOP candidate will hold a public event there in addition to meetings with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

Romney has strongly criticized the Obama administration for encouraging Israel to freeze settlements in the West Bank and for pressuring the Israelis not to attack Iran's suspected nuclear sites.

Those policies hurt relations between the two countries, but the relationship warmed last year when the U.S. blocked a Palestinian effort to attain U.N. membership.

President Obama also visited Israel as a candidate in 2008. Romney has often criticized Obama for not returning since taking office. Romney told the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC in March that his first overseas trip as president would be to Israel.

This is always the most awkward part of being American. Are there any other countries whose political leaders have to uncritically kiss the butt of a foreign state? I mean I guess during the Cold War some of the Soviet Bloc countries could never criticize Stalin...but at this point I don't even care if it's good or bad, the whole thing is just bizarre and aesthetically unpleasing. If there ever was a time to feel "patriotic" the election year Israel pilgrimages are definitely not it. Just makes me cringe.

I can only imagine the brown nosing that will go on in this trip. Yes Bi Bi, I will do whatever you want, yes Obama is a Muslim, he hates Israel, Yes he was born in Kenya. I will do as Adelson says, YES SIR.

I am pro Israel, but the groveling gets sick.

Maybe he can talk with them about medical cannabis.. he was so arrogant about it last month.

See, the Israeli's are on the forefront of cannabis research and are insisting cannabis be a FIRST line of defense before strong and deadly narcotics (their government even grows it for the patients).

They also, like Europe, have the prescribed "Sativex' that is being approved in the US as we speak FOR MS (Mitts wife has MS), but at 18 dollars a one time spray, and you have to spray several times a day, well.. cheaper to make your own.

Anyway Mitt, instead of getting snarky next time a reporter asks you a question a thinking man should at least be able to answer honestly, instead of saying 'Don't we have something important to talk about'.

Please, for God's sake Mitt, talk to the Israeli's.. you need schooling bad on this subject. 1960's are over.
