Late last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo endorsed a number of candidates running in the Democratic primaries for Congress--with one notable exception. Cuomo made no endorsement in the 6th Congressional District in Queens, where two state legislators and member of the local city council are heading to a showdown in the polls tomorrow.
On Monday, Cuomo announced that he was making an endorsement in the race, backing Assemblywoman Grace Meng's bid.
Voters in the district are receiving a call from Cuomo in support of Meng. The audio is below, as well as a transcript.
Hello, this is Governor Andrew Cuomo. I'm calling to urge you to vote for my friend Grace Meng for Congress in tomorrow's Democratic primary.
I'm a Queens guy, as you know, born and raised. I know what it takes to represent our Queens neighborhoods and families. So does Grace. She is the fighter that we need in DC. She's who I need standing up for New York.
I've worked with Grace Meng. I know her very well. I know her family. She is the right person for Congress.
Tomorrow's election is important. Again this is your governor, Andrew Cuomo. Urging you to vote for Grace Meng for Congress in tomorrow's Democratic primary. And please, please, please: remember to vote.
