When you think of summer festivals, you might think of sitting in a field or a park, paying hundreds of dollars to see bands and drinking overpriced warm beer.

But there’s a different kind of festival happening right now in Northern Alaska. Native Inupiaq communities are attending whaling festivals. These annual events are a historical staple of these whaling communities.
