Joan Rivers on Why She Hates Everyone

Tuesday, June 05, 2012

Joan Rivers talks about her latest book, I Hate Everyone…Starting with Me. She gives the best of her worst to First Ladies, closet cases, hypocrites, Hollywood, feminists, overrated historical figures, and even herself. It’s a comic love letter to the hater in all of us.

Guests:

Joan Rivers
News, weather, Radiolab, Brian Lehrer and more.

Lenny is usually deft with attractive women guests so I wondered if we would see any spark between these two classic characters -- or if one would be repelled by the other's hunger for center stage or intimidated by the other's stature.

Success! Both rose to the occasion -- we need to hear these two together more!

Another great segment, congrats.

Kevin, it wasn't that Johnny Carson needed to give her permission. What hurt him was that she never even came to him to tell him what her plans were (i.e., give him notice)—after he had given her a tremendous job of being the permanent substitute host of The Tonight Show.

Jewish self-hatred manifests itself first in changing names, then lots of plastic surgery, then disappointment with everyone else as well. Nobody and nothing is perfect.

Hi Joan,

I'm a big fan and admirer! I saw your documentary and watch Fashion Police every Friday night.

Question for you: how do you find time and energy to do all this?

Big hug and keep it up!

My "complaint" about the usually hilarious Joan is that she wears fur despite knowing the tremendous suffering those coats have caused to animals.

Please ask Ms Rivers for her opinion on Mayor Bloomberg's war on large non-diet soda, and her take on the Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee celebration.

i'll give her something else to hate, sure she can be funny at time; but rivers and rickles type of humour, is just kind of tired at this point. can i say kind of tired on WNYC,or is that too colloquial? btw- on your behalf, who the hell did johnny carson think he was, in expecting you to ask "permission",in order to get your own show on another network. what backward regressive feudal century, was carson living in ?!
