The cost of an AK47 or variant in the USA is roughly 500-5000 depending on model, condition and state purchased in and specific features. But they can be had very cheaply even less than 500 probably.

Another quiz question:

Who was the near-treasonous American "President" when this under-reported (by the liberal media) embarrassment of the U.S. Navy by the Chinese occurred on December 5?

"How the US Lost the South China Sea Standoff"
"China won the Cowpens/Liaoning encounter in the South China Sea."

Here's another news quiz question:

The anti-Semitic leadership of what American university association rammed through an attack on Israel and its university system in the guise of "fighting intolerance"?

As usual, I found your end of year quiz program very entertaining, but I could not help but notice some curious statements and omissions by Mr. Lehrer. (1) Mr. Lehrer leapfrogged Christmas, wishing callers "Happy New Year". In fact, WNYC (and NPR) has not uttered the word "Christmas" even once, as far as I can tell, using instead the tongue twister "holiday" this, "holiday" that, etc. (2) Mr. Lehrer said that the first Pope was from Israel? The Kingdoms of Israel and Judea were long gone by the time of Jesus and his Apostles. Therefore, St. Peter was a Roman citizen of Palestine which, according to history books, was then a Roman Province and therefore he could have instead said the first Pope was a "Roman" or even an "Italian". Israel was created only in 1948. I suggest that Mr. Lehrer study up so that he does not make such confusing errors and omissions.

China was the Third nation which tried Landing on Moon. Other countries didn't try landing on the Moon.

I don't think Jonathan Franzen is one of the Brooklyn Jonathans.
Jonathan Ames, Jonathan Safran Foer, former Brooklynite Jonathan Lethem...

I have never understood the use of the term 'non-white'.
Does having any non-Caucasian ancestry make you 'non-white'?
Even if you have white ancestors?
Who defines 'non-white'?
If anyone does define it, shouldn't it be the person in question?

That should have been Chiara Pron kyAH-rah not kyAY-rah, Y was a typo just above the H.

RE: Senator Menendez and "Hispanics" -- I live in NJ and would not have answered your question correctly, [according to you]. Hispanics, just as other peoples, come in different shades of skin. Menendez is considered NON-WHITE! Really?

Dec. 20 2013 10:43 AM

Hispanics are often classified as:

Hispanic - White
Hispanic - non-White

I think Menendez's heritage is Cuban which is probably white.

Wrong on the Senators
Hispsanics are classified as racially white.

According to US Census categories, Hispanic is not a race. Hispanics are asked to separately identify their race. Thus Sen. Mendenez is not necessarily "nonwhite." Don't worry, confuses most people (including most Hispanics filling out census forms).

Hispanic is not non-white.
Hispanic is an ethnicity and not racial.
Your question was incorrect.

Cory Booker also has white ancestry (it was in that Henry Louis Gates PBS show on ancestry. Same episode with John Lewis, whose ancestors were some of the first freed slaves to vote in the 1860s!)

Re: New Jersey non-white senators, Menendez is Hispanic, which is an ethnicity, but I think it's accurate to call him non-white.

Ann: You are wrong about the number of schools in the East Village. You missed School of Visual Arts. There is a dorm on 10th Street next to the TD Bank. You can tell they are VA students by their sullen demeanor. The school had to put up a No Smoking sign in front of the building because they used to sit on the sidewalk next to the door, smoke and throw the butts into the tree bed.

@MC -

Your WP link is 'Not Found' - so much for technical competence. Your NYP link simply reports that Iran claims to have signed nothing. Who cares what they sign, as long as their nuke program is slowed?

Have a Happy New Year!

Here’s a question for the quiz:

The laughable “nuclear deal” is quietly falling apart between Iran and which feckless leader of a fading global power in decline?
