Europe: American airmen down 21 Nazi planes. RAF airmen take down 3 more. American losses were 13 planes. Attacks against fortified French coast. Air raid alarm in Switzerland.


Russia: Last east-west escape rail line destroyed by Soviets. Troop positions in Moscow, etc. German defenses are crumbling rapidly, defeat will be one of the worst for the Nazis since Stalingrad. In Ukraine, savage Nazi counter attacks.


Italy: Allied invaders advance south of Rome and east of Nettuno against main 5th army force. Mark Clark's men fight against the most powerful Nazi force ever used. South of Rome, attempts to correct the "epic blunder" to allow Allies to land unopposed near Rome. Invading forces have taken an airport east of Nettuno, port of Nettuno. Allies shelling Appian Way.


Washington: Prospects of a 4th term for Roosevelt have been precipitated into a senate fight. Ohio Senator Robert Taft accused War Secretary Henry Stimson and Navy Secretary Frank Knox of supporting a uniform Federal ballot for men and women. "Convinced that they are essential to the conduct of the war." Not sure if they can guarantee delivery of absentee ballots to armed forces. Absentee Ballot proposal. Mustering Out Pay Bill to give money to servicemen.


Food prices. Gas rationing.
