If you’re like the majority of people who came of age in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, or 80s, Dick Clark will always be the ageless and amiable host of American Bandstand. If you ever watched daytime TV, Dick Clark will always be the man behind your favorite game shows. And, of course, who hasn’t watched Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year? Day or night, past or present, Dick Clark and his brand have touched television audiences as well as music fans, book lovers, radio listeners, and just about everyone in the entertainment industry.
Yesterday, Dick Clark passed away. But the stamp he left on the world is still very much apparent. We remember him today with two people who know his story well. John Jackson is the author of “American Bandstand: Dick Clark and the Making of a Rock 'n' Roll Empire.” And Lew Klein was the executive producer of American Bandstand, who hired Dick Clark fresh out of college.
