Shabazz Palaces is a Seattle avant-hip-hop collective led by Tendai Maraire and Ismael Butler, of the ‘90s jazz-rap act Digable Planets.

The group’s full-length debut, Black Up, released last June, is a masterful work of expansive melodies and poetic lyricism atop crunching beats and glitchy atmospherics.

Shabazz Palaces returns to New York City to perform at S.O.B's on Friday and Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday.
