William Wellman, Jr. was on the Lopate Show recently to discuss his father's career as a director, including "Wings," which won the first Oscar for Best Picture. He also told us what he's been watching recently!

What have you read or seen over the past year (book, play film, etc…) that moved or surprised you?

I see all the films nominated for major awards plus others -- as a member of the SAG film society and via screeners. The Artist was my favorite. I think this is an excellent year for unique films, many good ones. I do not read many books cover to cover -- I just write them.

What are you listening to right now?

I'm a lover of 50's and early 1960's songs... Rock n' Roll. ballads are my favorite kind of music

What’s the last great book you read?

"A Short Time for Insanity" by my father (William Wellman)

What’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect?

           The cooking channel

What's your favorite comfort food?

I'll eat anything that won't eat me.
