A commitment device forces you to be the person you really want to be. What could possibly go wrong?
The podcast mentions StickK.com and newcomer aherk.com. There are several more, like Beeminder.com (disclosure: I'm part of Beeminder!) and others listed here: http://blog.beeminder.com/competitors
With a commitment device, many things could possibly go wrong. As a human being, you change your mind. If you're committed to something, you have to go through with it even if you change your mind. Also as stated in the blog "your future self rebels against your current self" has a lot to do with a commitment device. What you do in the future doesn't always agree with your goals currently. It doesn't matter where you came from it matters where your going. There's also an urge to grow in this world and you always want to do better then you did yesterday.
