I'm very disappointed that WNYC would give time to Jennifer Rubin. She is a racist with contempt for journalistic standards. See, for example, her response to the massacre in Norway committed by Anders Breivik: "Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin (7/22/11) had called the Norwegian violence "a sobering reminder for those who think it's too expensive to wage a war against jihadists," citing Thomas Joscelyn of the Weekly Standard's assertion that "in all likelihood the attack was launched by part of the jihadist hydra." In a follow-up post (7/23/11), Rubin insisted that even though she was wrong, she was right, because "there are many more jihadists than blond Norwegians out to kill Americans, and we should keep our eye on the systemic and far more potent threats that stem from an ideological war with the West."" Also see the controversy around her retweeting a call for mass murder of Palestinians: http://english.al-akhbar.com/blogs/gadfly/washington-posts-jennifer-rubin-promotes-call-palestinian-genocide?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+AlAkhbarEnglish+%28Al+Akhbar+English%29 You know who would've been a better guest to discuss the Republican debate? Anyone!

I found this segment pretty disappointing. The guest seemed most pleased with the most insipid parts of the "debate". Saying that Ron Paul is best when he's being avuncular, rather than stating his views on issues and describing how he would govern - that's just insulting to the very purpose of a debate. And praising Santorum for trying to call off scrutiny of Gingrich and Romney and how they make their money? That's not just personal attacks. That's an examination of the often underhanded methods that the wealthy and the power-brokers of this nation got to their current positions, and it's a conversation that sorely needs to be had in much greater detail than it currently is.

Please, Mr. Lehrer, don't use your show as a platform for those that would prefer our elections remain a circus. Let's peer behind the curtain and stare the wizard in the eye.

...Blitzer, Gingrich, Romney, Paul, Santorum: The circus just gets more and more ridiculous!!

Jan. 27 2012 12:06 PM

C'mon!! Wolf Blitzer always has been and will always be a COMPLETE idiot.

BASTA!!

there really is no real journalism in this country right now and we, as a society, are paying the price with these charades we now call elections. the importance of a neutral fourth estate can't emphasized enough and we do not have one.
maybe bill moyers was the last? do you think he'd ask a couple of follow-up questions to force the candidates to actually ANSWER the question? maybe tim russert would?
it's just shameful that this is what we get, as americans, in this thing that used to be a democracy but its now just a big corporate version of the stockholm syndrome. why do we accept this? it's unacceptable.

Jan. 27 2012 12:01 PM

Castro??

Wha...????

Why is that a relevant subject??

Really?? Very 19....59!!!

Enough with these idiots and their irrelevancy!!

If we give Reagan the credit for ending the cold war could we PLEASE move on to the 21st century???!!!

Geezus.

Bernie, are you saying that building a Mc Donalds on the moon is not a serious issue?

As long as we haggle over an individual's super wealth and right to own such super wealth, we avoid looking at where systemic problems reside, in an American capitalism that is being scrutinized and understood as never before, not just by intellectuals but by masses who have access to info and knowledge by way of media and Internet, access they didn't have before. Unfortunately the skills of critical thinking continue to not be taught to American school children who grow up in large measure to become politically conservative Americans.

What is the justification for hosting a partisan blogger? So she can flog Santorum? Another signal waste of airtime.

Rommney's wealth due to hard work? Please, can someone look into this? He was born rich - and I'm just guessing here but got an Ivy League education, used family money to start businesses etc. Daddy's connections involved all the way. Can a reporter follow this so we stop accepting this mantra that he earned it through hard work.

so the media has decided that gringich and romney are the candidates of choice, and I am supposed to just accept this fact? Aren't people getting tirade of the charade that is the election cycle?
