Brian Lehrer Producer - May I say that I hope the NYPD monitors comments on this show page???

Are you aware of the "If you see something, say something" campaign? Is that campaign acceptable?

roseellen, Thank you.

Comments like yours prove the points of The Third Jihad.

There is a spot for terrorist sympathizers like yourself in Guantanamo. I hope you get relocated there soon - or that you face off with the Navy Seals.

Major Hassan was not part if some sleeper cell .He was a loyal american who ended up in the belly of the beast. As a shrink-he heard the soldiers' tales of murder of civilians or their desire to turn the place into a parking lot and complaints that their hands were tied.[euphymism for the fact they didn't have a green light to kill more men ,women and children then they already did just as PTSD is most often a euphymism for anger at the fact they couldn't kill more people then they already did.] He publicaly spoke out against these unjust wars and the army retaliated against his public opposition to the war by sending him to the war zone. Three days before being deployed he retaliated against their retaliation by massacarring the soldiers[who he perceived based on hearing their tales of murder and mayhem were at war with the people of iraq or afghanistan].That is why he retaliated against their retaliation. Not because we dare not be muslim-but because as someone in the belly of the beast he believed we were engaged in a war againstcivilians[like viet nam.]He rationalized that he was defending civilians from our unjust invasions. He if any one, DID have PTSD-as he heard of atrocities committed by his fellow americans and how after expressing his justified belief that these policies were wrong-got punished for speaking out.A real vicitm of PTSD-the stress of hearing soldiers gleefully talk of murdering men.women and children with impunity.

The iran/iraq conflict was about there own political conflicts. We supported the slaughter and sided with SH. The hindu /muslim conflict is also about power politics.Prior to Eng colonialism there they were all just Indians. Colonialism divided them along religious lines.I saw that on a pbs documentay about india. So too the shia/sunni divide though after the US invasion -resisters to our invasion would kill all collaborators with the US invaders.Collaboraters are rountinely killed in wars. Daniel Perl was perceived as a collaborator if not a spy and a supporter of the zionists[whether they were right about that is unclear]Five minutes after we invaded iraq he had to be there to see the american superpower drop bombs on a bunch of arabs.I never said they don't kill each other over conflicts that don't have anything to do with the west or israel or the US.I said that neither americans, westerners or israelis are killed simply because they dare to not be muslim.Terrorist acts against jews are political[they are perceived as supporters of european zionism which hurts the indigenous arabs].Prior to colonialism and western propping up of dictators the 3 faiths lived together in peace .Western colonialists favored christians and they benefitted as many muslims-especially fundamentalists- suffered.Hence the rise of the muslim brotherhood a civil rights orgainization for muslims .In syria now the military tortures dissenters who they call fundamentalist terrorists. The unequal treatment pit the religions against each other. There would not be any christians in the mid east if the muslim majority were warring against them. So too the jews[who prior to the european zionist intoerlopers coexisted with their muslim and christian arab brothers.]The three religions were all arabs.Muslims historically have been alot more accepting of jews and christians then europeans have.[christians persecuting other sects as much as jews].The 3 faiths had there own separate legal systems respecting their divergent sensibilities and ethos. Sounds tolerant to me.European zionism put an end to that. The Chinese muslims are a persecuted group resisting persecution. The empoverished afghans did the right thing in blowing up the buddhist statues;as much as it is great to have ancient buddhist statues still standing -mankind is us today .The people of afghanistan are as poor as people can get. A european NGO went there to clean up those ancient statues. The native taliban told them that they needed to pay them a million dollars as their people alive TODAY are empoverished. The european NGO said no-they're here to clean up the ancient statues -not to concern themselves with the plight of living empoverished afghans. That's when the taliban blew up the statues.I'm sure that NGO regrets their dismissing the plight of empoverished living people.Oh and by the way-Osama died believing in his heart of hearts that he did not start this war. I concur. May God have mercy on his soul.

I listened to your show this morning with Zudy Jasser from Clarion Fund.
I'm outraged that WNYC would allow such a one sided misrepresentation of Muslim in America from someone spreading lies about mainstream Muslim advocacy groups and mosques.
When will WNYC will allow people like CAIR, ISNA and others who are opposing the film Third Jihad to come on air and defend themselves and represent themselves???

Here from the NY Times:
Hateful Film

"The film shows some of the grisliest jihadist terrorists attacks in recent years and argues that the real agenda for Islamists in America is to infiltrate and dominate the country. "

If I recall correctly, Mr. Lehrer started out the interview with in itself a scurrilous statement: "We all agree that home grown Islamic terrism is a big threat...". Then he proceeds to play part of this inciteful film to ensure even more people get brainwashed. Then he lets Mr. Jasser go on and on spouting his propaganda, and only after what I suspect was criticism by callers does he start to ask pertinent questions. This kind of thing has happened too often on Mr. Lehrer's show to be an accident and I have to conclude the obvious, Mr. Lehrer is indeed a Neocon, although he pretends otherwise.

Jan. 27 2012 03:52 PM

Read dboy's first three comments. The first one is just a rant. The second mentions Rachel Corrie accident. The third one Sabra and Shatila massacre and Ariel Sharon.

So, you argument is that because Clarion Fund supports Jewish settlements they are also connected to Corrie/Sabra/Shatila, and that Israel is involved in making of this movie. Does not this imply a conspiracy?

I stand by my earlier comments that these comments by dboy are nothing but antisemitic, as Israel, its policies and Jews were not relevant in this discussion.

So you would accept the KKK pushing for segregation?

Socialist? Aren't you ashamed? hitler was a socialist.

> Free people should have the right[and they do in america]to believe whatever they want and to express their beliefs.Including the right to want to change the system.

And Americans have the right to OPPOSE islamism and its goal of imposing sharia law (GOD FORBID) on the US or parts of the US.

FYI, there is an islamist group in the UK that has announced that sharia law is the law in certain communities in the UK.

who said anything about a conspiracy? Another example of how using these buzz words- antisemite, conspiracy theory- is used to distract from the actual discussion of content.

this quote is from the film's producer Raphael Shore on the Third Jihad's own website...

"We regret that the film has been taken out of the counterterrorism training program of the NYPD. The New York Times stories are proof positive that the Clarion Fund's high-quality and impactful documentaries touch very sensitive nerves."

and this is from a website called stop radical

"CLARION FUND, Inc. is an independently-funded non-profit organization that produces and distributes documentaries on the threats of Radical Islam.

In 2006, Clarion released the award-winning documentary Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West. In 2008, Clarion released the well-received documentary, The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America. Clarion's newest film, Iranium, premiered February 8, 2011.

Clarion Fund was founded by Raphael Shore in 2006. Shore is also the founder of Imagination Productions, a distributor of films relating to Jewish education; and, a portal for online education. Previously, Shore served in senior posts at Aish HaTorah."

First, using that tone & slinging accusations does not encourage them to get into a dialogue with you.

Second, I know there are moderate Muslims around because I've met many of them. I'm a Jewish participant in The Dialogue Project, which brings together people on all sides of the Israeli-Palestinian situation to listen to each other & learn to understand how others are affected. I've heard from Muslims who say they've been to demonstrations or heard speakers denounce violence, but the events weren't covered in the media (although some outlets, like Maan News, do report on them). And maybe Muslims didn't demonstrate against Bin Laden because who expects a terrorist to pay attention to protestors?

There are other organizations, like Search for Common Ground and The Parents Circle-Families Forum (a group of Palestinians and Israelis who have lost family members to violence and responded by working together for peace) that oppose extremism & violence. The Fellowship of Reconciliation includes Muslim groups. Daisy Khan of the Park51 Center (who's been a guest on this show) spoke last week at a Martin Luther King, Jr., Day event at Riverside Church. I've heard representatives of CAIR, which Dr. Jasser excoriated, speak at NYCLU events, & I certainly didn't hear the kinds of things he accused them of.

Finally, he kept saying no one would get away w/saying these things about any other group? *Every* group says that.

rose-ellen from jackson hts.

As long as they're not violating any laws -they can preach whatever they want in the mosques-including wanting to see the country transformed into an islamic state. That is protected speech. They can "radicalize" congregants to support whatever cause -including any political or religious movement abroad or here.As long as violence or other law breaking is not advocated. That too is a tenent of jeffersonian democracy.Asking them to jump through hoops to express their loyalty to america is un-american.They have nothing to apoligize for, nothing to explain and nothing to prove. They are as entitled to their beliefs-whether religious, political or eschatological as all other religions and political movements are.The anti-semitism of today is anti arab/muslim and this film and its desimination throughout police departments is designed to instill a visceral hatred of muslims on the part of every law enforcer who sees this film. The word "radical" is irrelevant as the images overwhelm that little voice over word. The film makers are part of a genocidal anti semitic[against arab/muslim]think tank. These think tanks are permeating the body politic -brainwashing politicians, media and now government agencies. This is genocidal propaganda. That no one is getting fired over this shows how successful this campaign of demonization of muslims is.The justice deptartment should be in there but apparently anti-muslim indoctrination is now part and parcel of 21stc america.

I was impressed by Dr. Jasser's unexpected rationality. Everything I'd heard about the film on NPR previously led me to expect a raving maniac. Instead I heard a devout Muslim concerned enough about the politicization of his faith to try to do something about it. The comparison to Michael Moore in a previous comment is apt.

I was also taken aback by Brian's nearly relentless qrilling of the man, in which he repeatedly ignored everything Dr. Jasser was actually saying, and instead took him to task for some unsubstantiated generality about the film, i.e., "to paint all Muslims as violently radical." Dr. Jasser was certainly doing nothing of the sort on the program. Brian's new-found assertive gumption was especially surprising given his habitual lapdog agreeability when interviewing, say, spokespersons for U.S. military strategy or foreign policy.

Again, too predictably shallow and superficial. I'm disappointed. Not enough to give up on the show entirely yet, but I'm very close to dismissing it as hardly better than Fox News.

jgarbuz from Queens,

Over 7 million Muslims in Michigan. Is the death toll in Michigan rising everyday? Are Muslims killing other Muslims for leaving the religion in Michigan? Has Muslim influence crushed all forms of democracy in Michigan? Has Michigan succeeded from the Union yet?

Jan. 27 2012 11:08 AM

sanych, I completely agree. But in this case, the criticism is not unrelated as this film was produced by the Clarion Fund, a group linked to US and Israeli right-wing groups and a host of philanthropic organizations that share the agenda of protecting Israel's settlement project and squelching any political opposition to it.

Calls'em from The Indian Ocean

When confronting Islamic terrorism and the spread of oppressive sharia law we are well advised to recall the words of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn who warned us against enslavement by Godless communists: "I would like to call upon America to be more careful with its trust to prevent those pundits who are attempting to establish fine degrees of justice and even finer legal shades of equality (some because of their distorted outlook, others because of short-sightedness, still others out of self-interest) to prevent them from using the struggle for peace and social justice to lead you down a false road. They are trying to weaken you; they are trying to disarm your strong and magnificent country in the face of this fearful threat -- one which has never before been seen in the history or the world. Not only in the history of the country, but in the history of the world." This warning is also well applied to the usurpers in the current regime who are striving to fundamentally change America into a stifling socialist nanny state tolerant of sharia and dictating every little aspect of everyone’s life. That will not stand and neither will repressive sharia law in America.

Calls'em from The Indian Ocean

Wow! Brian Lehrer letting the other side speak, like he used to do every segment. It's been years. Your guest is is a Muslim version of a cross between famous Republican Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. Muslims in America have been on mass suspiciously silent, though I suspect many are loyal to the American way of life, I know for a fact that many are not. Islam has a plan for a new Caliphate and it includes Europe, America, Canada and other British Commonwealth nations. Folks who listen exclusively to NPR and PBS haven't heard much or anything about this - but, trust me and the British, Israeli & US intelligence services... its happening. A thousand new mosques have opened around America many in towns where there weren't any muslims. Muslim organizations are pushing and in some cases have succeeded in promulgating American history books stressing islam's great contributions to building America. You knee jerk libs need to wake up, more than most because sharia law is not going to be very kind to you all.

Islam is the fastest growing religion (as if that were important), is primarily because you may not get out of Islam alive! If you are apostate or try to convert to Christianity, or some other faith, you face the very real prospect of bodily harm.

Jan. 27 2012 10:36 AM

sanych- just because someone is critical of the Isreali government and it's policies, does not make them an antisemite. Many Jews and Isrealis are also critical of these policies. That label is all too often used to stifle any conversation on these issues.

Jan. 27 2012 10:32 AM
NPR has hypocrisy down to an Art-form from Somewhere in the world

NPR and WNYC is indirectly (if not directly) pro-radical islam. Constantly labels any criticism of radical islam and a call to moderate muslims to step-up to confront the dangerous elements within their community/religion as anti-islam, muslim and racist. WNYC will not be happy until another attack on the country occurs. Then they will jump on the patriotic bandwagon only to jump-off in the name of "civil rights" to promote NPR's anti-west rhetoric.

I only hear NPR and WNYC constantly attack the NYPD, the US military, and persons who confront the issues with a real and pragmatic voice. While these persons and institutions are not perfect, they protect our free society that enables persons like Brian to exercise their First Amendment right to spew anti-American rhetoric (although he spews it in an entirely eloquent and agreeable way).

By the way, did NPR and WNYC attack Michael Moore and Fahrenheit 911 as being: overly general, anti-American and a potential tool to further indoctrinate radicals?

This was one of the most unsettling segments in wnyc history. Not because of the anger or religion, but because it is so clear that both sides are incredibly wrong. We want to take sides, but we can't. Seems like a no win situation. Makes me happy not to be muslim. They've got work to do, and we don't even know who the "They" are. Give any religion enough time and it will cause problems for the rest of us, it seems. Neith side in this issue can claim any moral high ground. Good luck to all muslims.

New Rule: If you have to rant in order to make your point, you don't have a point.
Could NPR please raise the level of dialogue by interviewing thoughtful people. If I want to hear screamers who have figured out how to make a living simply by raging about rabid ideas because it provides them attention (and godawful amounts of money from Citizens United groups), there are no shortage of other radio stations I could tune into. Please keep the dialogue interesting, thoughtful and mind expanding, not small-minded and sad.

Islam has 1.5 billion members. It's not a small sect or a cult. It's the fastest growing religion in the US. In Britain there are more Muslims going to mosques than Christians going to churches. It looks like everyone is missing the point here. If Islam was violent, the world would be in fire today. Certainly there are black sheep in every community. But painting 1.5 billion as potential terrorists is ridiculous.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne is probably the most prolific liar in the any city position today. It is his job to spin, obfuscate, distort and out-and-out lie over so many different issues as he defends the NYPD, right or wrong. Anything he says is or should be automatically taken with a huge amount of doubt or question. From the 2004 Republican Convention, to the various shootings of citizens like Sean Bell, to the Occupy movement, and in countless other matters including this, he just lies and lies... The only reason he is being called on it this time is because Commissioner Kelly is also implicated. It's time they both go... so we can attempt to bring "courtesy, professionalism and respect" back to the top levels of the corrupt and out-of-control NY Police Department.

The Kahn commission, like most in Israel, was made up by LIBERAL, leftist Jews who are always trying to be conciliatory to avowed foes. Always trying to compromise. Always trying to find the good side of the enemy. Now if Muslims could do the same regarding Israel, or for that matter regarding the West, we might have a basis of reconciliation.
