I am repeatedly amazed at just how smart, and how aggressive this lady is. She has great and multifarious talents, brilliant estimates (low ones to be sure) of the entertainment business and she clearly turned Leonard to lightly salted butter. She's learned to hide her claws (her treatment of Porter was downright kind), and laugh off her flaws for the most part. But what awes me is that she clearly still has more testoserone than most professional football teams. I would not want to see Dolly behind the wheel in my rear view mirror on a Highway in Nashville.

Dolly Parton has commented about why her planned television show about a gospel singer was never produced, saying "Everybody's afraid to touch anything that's religious because most of the people out there [in Hollywood] are Jewish, and it's a frightening thing for them to promote Christianity."

If that were true, how did this movie ever get made?

Becky, are you one of those paternalistic non-"blacks" - generalizing and stereotyping and entire group with your "typical southerner" quip.

I prefer someone be themselves and say "blacks" if that's what they use in private, as opposed to the more forced "African-American" which usually comes out in a way that sounds patronizing.

Back in the late 70's I was just starting as a 23 year old Pan Am flight attendant and we had Dolly in First class from Honolulu to Auckland.. Even though I was working the back, the more senior flight attendants let me serve her breakfast because they knew how much I loved her. She was so sweet and made me blush, asking if she could keep me. After all these years Dolly, I'm still waiting!

Dolly, is it true that Elvis wanted to record "I will Always Love You"? And did you really turn him down because he wanted the publishing?

One more thing: funny that her character is named GG Sparrow in the movie. Dolly put out a wonderful bluegrass-oriented CD called 'Little Sparrow.' A gorgeous record.

Dana may not have been "signed on" and he may have written it with you in mind when they presented it to you but she (Queen Latifah) IS the headliner.

Dolly, Thanks so much for your Imagination Library. For those not familiar with the program, Dolly has partnered with local jurisdictions to send wonderful books once a month to any kid who enrolls in the program. She includes reading tips for parents and some notes about the selection of each book. It's amazing, generous, and one of the greatest gifts I can imagine to many kids, my own included. We are big Dolly Parton fans at our house!
