Tuesday, December 27, 2011

A lot of you went to church this weekend for the first time in awhile, or perhaps the only time all year - tell us about whether your service addressed the news of the day or other events.

But it must be said that the first task of the preacher on Christmas is to meditate on the event of God becoming man, Yahweh walking among his people. Politics are kind of trivial compared to that.

At the end of Christmas eve mass Rev. Richard Futie, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, CT, spoke at lenght about what a wonderful radio stion WQXR was. He recommended 105.9 FM be cemented on our radio dial. He also encouraged contributing support.
He loved the music played not only during the Christmas sesson but year round as well.

Notably none of the callers indicated the church, the capital investmenss of the congregation, would be opened up to those requiring shelter and respite on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

Sunday gather unto me, maybe. On unholy days, let them eat cake!

First, Brian, the Pope always talks about peace in Urb et Orbi and always addresses current troubling issues but so what!! What happens after he talks about it. Secondly, he talked about consumerism all decked out in he newly hand brocade in gold cope, wearing as always a brand new mitre brocade in gold, bearing one of hundreds, probably, pastoral staffs probably artigianally made by hand, in a magnificent marble floored, baroque basilica and he has the coglioni to scold us about commercialism! I don't think so. Time is the Italian government take over that institution and make it an entertainment tourist venue because that's all it is.

Our sermon was surprisingly adult, mentioning some of Jesus' controversial history, and making it all the way to a mention of 9-11. Interesting to me was that attendance was actually Down. Reason? I stayed at the small "satellite" church whearas the majority went to the more majestic main establishment for Christmas day.
