Woman Dies in Freak Midtown Elevator Accident

A 41-year-old woman was killed during an elevator mishap in a Madison Avenue office building, the fire department said.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m.when the woman stepped onto the elevator on the 1st floor and her foot or leg became caught in the closing door, officials said. The car rose abruptly, dragging her body into the shaft and killing her.

Two women in the elevator were evaluated at the hospital for psychological trauma but were not injured.

Investigators with the fire department, the police department and the city's buildings department were on the scene in midtown Manhattan, which is also the longtime home of advertising agency Y&R.

There were 56 violations on the buildings 13 elevators dating from 2000, according to the Department of Buildings.

Officials originally thought the elevator had fallen two floors.

Poor woman dies from some strange accident and the news can't even pay her respects with a well written and edited story.
