Episode #3277

New Music from Norway

« previous episode | next episode »

Tuesday, December 06, 2011

Listen to some updated folksong arrangements, arrangements of medieval songs, and music that looks to other world traditions, all from Norway.  The updated folk comes to us from a collection of ballads, hymns, lullabies, sung by Trio Medieval, and we'll also hear Norwegian medieval song by Jan Garbarek & Agnes Buen Garnas.

Plus, there's an old Norwegian folk hymn – with mighty power chords on a church organ.  And more.

I have been listening to John Schaefer show, New Sounds, since 1984 but have not been able to catch them all since I am away from the area on many occassions. I was just wondering if the music of Geoff Knorr & Michael Curran ( composers for the PC game Civilization 5 ) had ever been featured on the show. Thank you.
