Everything about the introspective, anxious indie-pop of Youth Lagoon (who is Trevor Powers) feels like it comes from an authentic place. Perhaps it’s because the 22-year-old Boise native’s music -- about both hiding from and exploring the world -- comes right from his bedroom.
Powers wrote and recorded the eight tracks that make up Youth Lagoon’s breakthrough debut LP A Year Of Hibernation there over the course of 2010. The intimate location adds a raw, deeply-personal dimension to the album’s reverb-laden vocals and dreamy, homegrown melodies.
This wistful track, “July,” mimics a fire-cracker — beautifully building, soaring, and finally, settling into twinkling silence. Download the song above or watch the video for "July" below. Youth Lagoon performs at the Mercury Lounge on Monday and Tuesday nights.
