Former Prosecutor Will Oversee FDNY Hiring

Thursday, November 10, 2011

A federal judge is appointing a former prosecutor as an independent monitor to oversee the efforts of the city's fire department to hire minorities.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District Mark S. Cohen will watch over the recruitment, testing and hiring of new firefighters.

A city attorney said there is no objection to Cohen's appointment, but said the city does not agree a monitor is warranted.
