Puppets on Film

Cheryl Henson, Jim Henson’s daughter; puppeteer Basil Twist; and Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash talk about “Puppets on Film.” Presented by BAMcinématek and the Jim Henson Foundation, “Puppets on Film” is the most comprehensive survey of live puppetry in cinema ever compiled for both children and adults. It includes the Muppet movies, documentaries, 1980s cult classics, fantasy films, and shorts by contemporary artists. In anticipation of the November 23 release of The Muppets, a selection of films produced, directed, or godfathered by Muppets creator Jim Henson.

Philip Glass on "Satyagraha"

Philip Glass talks about his opera "Satyagraha," playing at the Metropolitan Opera in the first revival of Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch’s innovative 2008 production. Based on the life of Gandhi, it explores his enduring philosophy of non-violent resistance. Satyagraha is the second part of Glass’s famous trilogy of operas about important historical figures, which also includes "Einstein on the Beach" (1976) and "Akhnaten" (1983).
