When did "history" become "backstory?"

I read "Wicked" back in 1996 and have loved it ever since. My other favorite book by Gregory is his children's book "The Dream Stealer."

I have a question about the Wicked Years books. While reading A Lion Among Men I got the sense the books were in a sense being informed by "Wicked" the musical. Has "Wicked" the musical inspired these books?
